------------------------------
All swimming clubs come under the governance of the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) and, as such, all members (including non-swimming members) must be registered with them.
The vast majority of our swimmers are registered with the ASA as Category 1 members. This is the basic category for swimming members of all clubs and allows them to swim in ‘low level’ competitions, such as the ones in which we currently swim. In order to take part in higher level competitions, such as County Championships and Open meets, swimmers must be registered as Category 2 members. Although the registration fees are somewhat higher for Category 2, anyone wishing to upgrade from Category 1 to enable them to take part in such competitions will be able to do so at no extra cost to them.
Non swimming members are registered as category 3.
From 1st January 2007 the fees for each session will be £7 per month or £2 per individual session for Leisure Centre and £1.75 per session at Edgewood.
Swimming caps
At the last committee meeting the issue of swimming caps came up again. All girls (and any boys with long hair) should be wearing swimming caps to every session they attend. This is a health and safety issue and as a club with safety in mind we do want to ensure that caps are worn before swimmers get in to the water. Your help with this would be much appreciated.
Club Welfare Officer
We are looking for someone to take on the role of Club Welfare Officer. It’s not a difficult job and doesn’t take up a lot of time – hopefully someone feels they can put a little in to the club and help out. The duties are:
- Ensure Register of Teachers’ and Coaches’ forms are completed
- Keep the copy of the ASA Child Protection Guidelines
- Ensure that any new initiatives or concerns from the ASA are communicated
- Ensure that Child Protection is an item on club committee meeting agendas
Please let Eddie know if you are willing to help. It’s an important job and we do need to get some new parents involved
