News from Hucknall and Linby Dolphins Swimming Club
Gift Aid
If you haven’t filled in a gift aid form and you pay tax, could you please complete and return to Margaret the attached form. Gift aid means we can claim money from the Inland Revenue (28% of the fees you pay). To give an idea of how much it is worth, for one swimmer paying each month we can claim £21.56 for every session they come!
So if you haven’t previously completed the form please do so – it only takes a couple of minutes
Equipment when swimming
We want to remind all swimmers to make sure they bring the essential equipment to ALL sessions:
Swimming caps – everyone who has long hair should wear a swimming cap. If they really can’t then at least tie the hair back. This is a health and safety issue and we do need swimmers to adhere to it.
Floats and flippers – it can be hard for coaches to carry out all the drills they have planned when some swimmers in the lane don’t bring floats or flippers. This can mean them missing out so please ensure they have them available every time they swim. Swimmers should also bring them to the lane end at the beginning of their session. If you need new flippers Margaret sometimes has some for sale.
Club Captains
The new club captains for the next year were announced at the annual gala. They are:
Senior girls Charlotte Chambers
Senior boys Alec Leverton
Junior girls Sophie Whitley
Junior boys Daniel Bennison
We must also say thank you to the outgoing captains.
Training at Mansfield
Paul Sears is willing to put on an additional training session at Mansfield Pool on a Friday evening 8-9pm. This would be for current gala swimmers with a comprehensive plan to improve their technique. At this stage we want to guage interest in the idea – so could people who are interested please let Paul know.
New Level 1 Coach
Congratulations to Tracy Pride who has passed her ASA Level 1 teachers certificate. Tracy took the course over the summer – well done
Annual Gala
This year’s annual gala was a huge success – congratulations to all who competed, full results will be posted on the board.
A big, big thank you to Karen and Ben for organising the event, a lot of the work went on behind the scenes and they did a great job. Thanks also to Eddie for pulling it all together. We also couldn’t run the gala without help from the timekeepers, people on poolside (organising swimmers, logging times, announcing, etc). A big thank you to everyone who got involved.
Oh, and the scoreboard worked this year!!
Money from sweets
A big thank you to the sweet ladies (Margaret and Val) who have raised £235 for the club from sweet sales after training.
And finally…
Regular training obviously is essential in improving swim technique and times. But diet is also important – and combining protein with carbohydrate after training can promote the muscle building process. The ASA’s magazine, Swimming Times, has featured a milkshake and a couple of smoothies which make a good after training snack.
